Lsvtec
I AM PLANNING TO PURCHASE A 95 LS MOTOR AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT I WOULD NEED TO DO TO TRANSFORM IT TO LSVTEC AND HOW HARD AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO DO IT.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES ON HAVING A LSVTEC AND THE FLAWS. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME |

lsvtec cost
since Vtec heads are going up and sometimes hard to find...here's a rough draft on your cost:
Vtec head (B18C) Between $500-$900, depending on condition Vtec head (B16) Between $350-$700 Oil line and fitting:$90 Machine shop fee (block drilling etc.) $150 Vtec distributor for your year of car: $200 Vtec ECU: $250 Wires (prewired): $250 Intake manifold: need to replace if usng B18C : skunk2: $275 Extras: timing belt, water pump Advantage: More torque than stock vtec, because of the stroke LS have=more power Disadvantage: LS block is not made to handle RPM over 9k...compared to a fully built GSR or B16 that can rev up to 10K RPM *But as long as its built well and maintained, an LS/Vtec is the way to go or even CRVtec for more power that will last as long as any regular Vtec engine... |

I'd go with the LS...Unless you're building the B16 w/ new pistons and headwork, the LS is more fun stock because of the torque it produces. And if you decide to upgrade...a turbo is a perfect match.
Only give away from a b16 is the power of vtec that kicks in on high rpms...you wont get that from an LS, unless you make it an LS/Vtec. Another drawback is the LS block, its not made to handle high rpm's as b16's or b18c's. I'm only running a stock LS right now because my lsvtec motor's still being built (well not really) I have CAI, jdm 4-1 header, hks exhaust, lightened flywheel and I've killed a 2000 Si on the freeway and a 90 Mustang 5.0 from 1st to 3rd gear...about 2 1/2 cars length and a 99 Civic EX like its parked...
