Problem After Installing SilverStar Headlights
Not knowing much about vehicles, but an avid do yourselfer...this problem comes after I decided to install silverstar headlights in my 1997 blazer. I was replacing 9005 with the 9005 type lights. However after installing them, I noticed that they didn't work. So I placed the orginals in and they didn't work afterwards. My initial thought was that perhaps a fuse has blown. I didn't know which fuse was the correct one for the headlights, so I pulled them all out and did continuity checks on them. After placing them back in, I have a new problem. The truck won't start. Seems to just makes a clicking sound and interior lights go from bright to dim...to off after a number of tries. Another problem is that I'm stuck in the drive way. Thus I can't push it out to try a jumbstart.
So my question is, what can I do to: start this truck? or get it out of park? and then fix the headlight problem? |

Re: Problem After Installing SilverStar Headlights
Is your security light flashing on and off. I so, it's in theft tamper mode.
Try this. SYSTEM CHECK 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SECURITY light illuminates for 3 seconds, then turns off, go to step 4). If SECURITY light does not illuminate for 3 seconds, then turn off, go to next step. 2) If SECURITY light flashes, go to step 15). If light is not flashing, go to next step. 3) Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to step 15). If engine does not start, go to SYSTEM TESTS. 4) Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, go to step 8). 5) If SECURITY light is on, or customer reports light is on during normal driving conditions, go to next step. If light is not illuminated while engine is running, system is normal. 6) Using a scan tool, attempt to communicate with vehicle. If communication exists, go to next step. If communication does not go to step 17). 7) Check for current Passlock(TM) or powertrain DTCs. If any DTCs exist, diagnose and repair problem. For powertrain DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. For Passlock(TM) DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If no DTCs exist, diagnose and repair instrument cluster. See appropriate wiring diagram in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - BLAZER, BRAVADA, ENVOY, JIMMY, SONOMA & S10 PICKUP article. 8) If SECURITY indicator is off, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator is illuminated, go to step 12). 9) If engine cranked normally, go to next step. If engine did not crank normally, go to step 11). 10) Check fuel delivery. See appropriate BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. 11) Check starting system. See appropriate STARTERS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. 12) If SECURITY indicator is on steady, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator is not on steady, go to step 15). 13) Check for current Passlock(TM) DTCs. If no DTCs exist go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to applicable test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. 14) Diagnose and repair instrument cluster. See appropriate wiring diagram in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - BLAZER, BRAVADA, ENVOY, JIMMY, SONOMA & S10 PICKUP article. After repair, go to step 18). 15) Check for current Passlock(TM) or powertrain DTCs. 16) Using scan tool, check for current Passlock(TM) DTCs in TBC. If communication does not exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to applicable test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. 17) Repair Class 2 serial data line communications. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Go to next step. 18) Clear DTCs. Go to SYSTEM TEST. SYSTEM TEST 1) Ensure system check has been performed. See SYSTEM CHECK. After performing system check, go to next step. 2) Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check Ignition 1 input. Ignition 1 should be ACTIVE. Check Passlock state. Passlock state should be Normal Decision. Check battery, fuses and power to TBC module (Ignition 1 and power). Repair as necessary. If repair was needed, go to step 14). If no repair was needed, go to next step. 3) Using scan tool, check battery voltage. If voltage reading is more than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is 8 volts or less, repair power supply as necessary. 4) Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine cranks fast enough to start, go to step 6). If engine does not crank fast enough to start, go to next step. 5) Check starting system. See appropriate STARTERS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. 6) Check resistance between ground and TBC module connector C1 terminals A1 and B1. If resistance is more than 25 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 25 ohms or less, go to step 8). 7) Repair ground circuits. After repairs, go to step 14). 8) Using scan tool, check for communication to TBC. If communication does not exist, go to next step. If communication exists, go to step 10). 9) Repair Class 2 serial data line communications. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Go to step 14). 10) Check for current DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to applicable test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. 11) Using scan tool, verify PCM/VCM is receiving password from TBC. If PCM/VCM is receiving password, go to appropriate SELFDIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If PCM/VCM is not receiving password, go to next step. 12) Reprogram TBC. Perform learn procedure. See PROGRAMMING. Verify PCM/VCM is receiving password from TBC. Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to step 14). If engine does not start, go to next step. 13) Replace TBC. Reprogram TBC. Perform learn procedure. See PROGRAMMING. Go to next step. 14) Clear DTCs. Perform system check. See SYSTEM CHECK. SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM Ensure all components are connected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position (engine off). Connect scan tool. Check if scan tool communicates with Vehicle Control Module (VCM/PCM). Check for Passlock(TM) DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) DEFINITIONS table. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) DEFINITIONS |

Re: Problem After Installing SilverStar Headlights
All you should have to do to get it out of park is to turn the key one click forward to the acc circuit then the steering wheel should be unlocked and you should be able to shift it out of park. It sounds like your battery could be dead. If it just makes a clicking noise when you try to start it and the light dim then die, it sound like your battery. Hopefully thats all it is is your battery. Good luck.
