Help me understand - what makes it stop
Hello,
In my ongoing quest to get my headlight motor fixed I'm wondering what makes it stop. Ok you flip the switch, it sends a electric palue to the motor and it spins up or down based on the switch position. Does it spin a set number of times or does it spin a set amount of time or (my belief) its spins until the tension is tight? I base this on the pass side one that works stops faster and the the problem on (driver side) keeps spining and spinning and thats the grinding noise until it finally comes to a stop. Right now I have used the great infomation (pinned up top) to replace the plastic gear and now they both go down great but the left one makes a noise going down (and sometimes up) The motor its self seemed a little loose. The black motor that is clamped onto the plastic housing that holds the gear inside. I used some jb weld and that fixed it for a few days but then the noise returned. I will prob have to replace it but Im still VERY curious what makes the motor stop. My noise seems to come from the motor not knowing when to stop. Thanks John |

Re: Help me understand - what makes it stop
I believe the motor stops at the feel of tension... im almost positive. The best thing you can do is get the brass gears online and switch them with the plastic ones. It fixed my motors.

Did you completely clean everything on reinstall and grease the gears lightly?
