strange engine noise

I posted a while back about my 93 grand am 2.3 quad SOHC. I put a new head on this engine but now it makes a rattling noise when it is running(sounds like a diesel). I noticed when I turned the steering wheel the noise would stop. I had assumed the power steering pump was bad. But, I took the power steering belt off, restarted it and it still makes the noise..!? So, its not the pump. The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine(cam area). It runs and drives great but I know this noise is not suppose to be there and might be a serious problem. Has anybody got any ideas on what to do besides tear this engine down again??

I realize that you can't hear the noise. That is why I tried to describe it as best as I could. It sounds like the lifters are rattleing, but when I turn the steering wheel it stops, when I let off the wheel, it starts again.
I just kind of thought that maybe somebody would have a suggestion as to what I could look for. I thought that was what this site was for.
