Fuel volume

I made the mistake of running out of gas. Shortly after this, the car started chugging off and on. I assumed I had sucked up some dirt and fouled the injectors. I changed the fuel filter and added injector cleaner 4 times over 6 7 tankfuls. Problem has gotten worse. Really chugging badly and seems like it isn't getting gas. Now I think it may be the uptake in the tank. Anyone ever have to deal with this? How easy is it to take this apart and clean? Help...
