Alright I Need Help. I Saw somewhere that someone had disabled the Daytime Running Lights and also made it so that he could turn just the fog lights on, on command, does anyone know how to do this or a good place to go to get it done? thanks for you help

Re: Daytime Running Lights

its a DIY thing. Dont think many dealers or shops would do it even if they knew how. I will PM you a link to the soarce.

BTW- THIS only works for 99-00. The link I pm'd you, you may be able to find your year over there, if not sorry to get your hopes up!

Re: Daytime Running Lights

i just cut the two wires like it says and connected them together and it works perfect, once you figure out where the wires are it takes no time at all

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I disabled both my DRl's, and the ALC too. I was getting so sick and tired of having my automatic headlights come on just because I happened to be driving into a dense shady area. That damn sensor in the defroster vent would think darkness was coming and turn my headlights on. Oh man, that used to bug me bigtime. So I disabled both of those annoyances.... Now I have complete control of my running lights, fog lights, and headlights.... and I don't have to worry about that sensor turning on my headlights anymore.
Hey, with the price of Sylvania SilverStar bulbs, I certainly don't need the premature burnout caused by DRL's running the bulbs at a reduced power all the time. Nothing worse for a bulb than continous on/off cycles. Makes the bulbs burnout too quickly.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

happy 100!
The pre burnout of my Syl SS was geting expensive.
That was How I happened to come by AF, looking for the disable proceedure
BUt it was else where, dont know if the lightsout place had the proceedure back then(dont think they did), lights out is a good place for help with DRLs though.

To bad its only workable on the 99-00 models

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Yup... The tutorial I followed was specific for '99 and '00 only. I don't know where there are any tutorials for other years......
If your Sylvania SilverStars burn out too early, I have found that Sylvania has superb customer service. I e-mailed them to ask why one of my fog lights burned out quickly. To my surprise, they sent me two new #880 fog light bulbs !!! And I didn't even have a reciept. They are extremely customer friendly. They told me that the #880 bulbs are rated for 100 hours of use on the average.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Sylvania is pretty good at sucking up!

Before I disabled my DRLs, I had sent 25-30 Silver stars back to them because of high been burnout at less than 30days. Didnt hav reciepts, they just sent replacements for ALL them. So I wont need any bulbs for a while

Lights out.org is the only place I know of that has a wide variaty of cars on thier Disable page and its updated frequently.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Well I hope so any way @ 20$ each.... about $400 worth!
These were acumilated over two years though. I still believe it is the bulb thats to blame and Not our DRLs intirely.

One other thing Guys on some of the GAs new and older ones with DRLs can sometimes pull the #22 relay(under the hood Fuse box) for the DRL and you wont get a SVS light on. They are a PITA to pull though.
99s and 00s , cant pull the relay, it'll trip the SVS warning.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Wow, I'm glad you mentioned that, xero... because I recieved a private e-mail asking for assistance in doing the DRL mod for a 2001. But I have no idea how to do it on that particular year... My car is a 2000..... And I think the wiring is different for a 2001.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I've never seen any info yet in regards to a 2005.... maybe a bit too new and nobody has attempted it yet. I was looking for info to post here for a 2001 to help out another guy too.... if I happen to spot anything for a 2005 I will post it here for you. But I wouldn't hold my breath though; I think it is gonna be hard to find info for a 2005.
Maybe the only thing you could do is try searching on google, and hope somebody has posted any info for a 2005... I wouldn't have a clue how Pontiac did the wiring on a 2005.....

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I was thinking the 04-05 are not the same, but as it is new probley no one has attempted to Mod the 05's.

Your 05 cant turn your lights on(low beams) during the day? Or just your parking lights?
Because I know someone with an 05 GT/Sct and he just turns his parking lights on and the DRLs go out...
