Unhappy Help! 93 Bronco 5.0 - hesitant accel. and high/fluctuating idle

I just bought my first bronco, 1993 w/ the 5.0. When i bought it the idle would fluctaute b/w 1000 and 1400 RPMs. I just replaced the tps and it seems to have helped a little, however sometimes it is hesitant to accelerate when I "step on it" or it even just bogs down. Also when I put it in gear (E4OD tranny) the RPMs drop and it almost stalls unless I give it some gas. I am going to run some fuel system/injector cleaner through it but w/ my luck that won't help. Oh, and the cat. converter air tube is rotted off, I have a new one that I'm going to put on but I'm not sure if that will help anything. Please help me asap! Thanks

the new cat will help immeasurably. Looking at the design of the internal combustion engine-it's built upon the backpressure of the exhaust system. The Catalytic Convertor is designed to build up and clog. After a decade or two, you'll need to replace it. It's probably what's choking your engine out. The Rot is a good sign that it's doing it's job, since your engine exhaust collects a lot of moisture.

I replaced the cat, converter air tube today and it did help w/ the hesitation and cure the exhaust leak I could hear, so now I suppose I can start looking for a new cat.converter. However one problem seems to leak to another!I'll mention that in a new post. Thanks for the help.

Re: Help! 93 Bronco 5.0 - hesitant accel. and high/fluctuating idle

Have you replaced the Air filter (in the breather box?) One of those, and a new PCV valve will probably help it breathe. (Most Fords lope in the idle somewhat-but it's a sign that something is holding up the process...) If you've already taken a look at the backpressure, it's time to look at the 'front-pressure'-like the Air Filter, and PCV valve. (The PCV is the tube that runs from the valve cover to the breather box.)

Should have bought a Chevy... Hey, see if Garys U Pull It will give you like $100 dollars for the whole thing. And then maybe you can find a Eagle Talon TSI to fix up or something.
