Painting Bodies with Acrylics...

hey guys..

is it ok to paint the body with just acrylics, as base, and top coat? Will the paint adhere enough to be polished and so forth?

any tips on using acrylics for the body? and of course it's gonna be shot through an airbrush!

i use arcrylics and havent had any major probs with them just sand the body first with 1000 grit paper then use flat white or neutral gray as primer then your colour, if using metallic paint finish with a clear coat. Alternatly you can use a proper primer from a can followed by your colour, both ways seem to work well. to finish off i use 2000 grit very lightly with water followed by rubbing compound, hope this helps, Bob.

For clear coats you might want to try Future floor polish. It's cheap and can be airbrushed or hand brushed on. Also, it doesn't turn yellow over time. I've had some problems with Tamiya clear turning yellow. It's not a problem over dark colors but definitely noticable over white.

Did you polish the Future, or did it go on smooth enough for your tastes? Got any pics?

It's smooth enough for me, so I've never polished it. Keep in mind though that my paint jobs are not "best paint job in show" quality. Basically it gives a high gloss without yellowing. Here's a pic of a motorcyle I did a couple of years ago. This whole model (except the tires) got a coat of Future, even the wind shield.
