Header opinions..

well i decided not to get rims, for now..so what i will be looking into are some headers for my 98 Trans am...some how i was focusing on looks but now i want a little more power..lol

so does anyone have any good suggestions for longtube headers...
best bang for your buck kinda thing i guess...

i have a magnaflow exhaust and when i get headers i also want to purchase a off road y-pipe...so what would be a good set-up to match the exhaust..i'm not to sure...

one more question...how much of a power difference would it be from good long tube headers like kooks compared to pacesetters..??
well thanks for all the help

Re: Header opinions..

AVOID SLP.

Since you seem to be looking at mostly bolt-ons...Pacesetters will be great for you.

Kooks are GREAT headers, but for the average bolt-on car, they aren't needed.

I would recommend Pacesetters for you.
Listen to this...Magnaflow catback with a longtube set-up.
YUMMY!!!!

Re: Header opinions..

Kooks and QTP are basicly the same. Both are top of the line stainless headers.

Pacesetters are a coated header. They are still stainless...but a lower grade.
Ceramic coating = good stuff on the Pacesetters.
Good stuff at BYUNSPEED!!!
Those are what you are looking for.
You will also need a y-pipe. What kind depends on if you need to be able to pass emissions.

Re: Header opinions..

nope.. we dont have emissions in florida...so i guess thats a good thing since i'm considering an off road y pipe...
so i'm leaning towards the ceramic longtube pacesetters and a ory pipe to complete my magnaflow exhaust...thats seems to be a pretty good setup
thanks for the help

BTW saw your car in another thread with ur friends cobra have to say very nice trans am

Re: Header opinions..

Thank you!!!

Since you don't have to pass emissions and plan on an off-road y-pipe...I would recommend race headers.
Get rid of your EGR and AIR. These motors are clean enough anyways. They basicly just clutter the engine compartment. Hell...the 2001 and 2002 Ls1 F-Bodys didn't even have the EGR system stock.

No emissions = Race headers. I believe those would be right. Call Young at byunspeed. Friend of mine here in Colorado. Shipping IS included in the price you see on his site.
You need O2 sensor bungs still, but no EGR/AIR fittings.

I have ditched the EGR and AIR on mine.
And I am supposed to have to pass emissions. Still gotta figure that one out.

Re: Header opinions..

The EGR and AIR systems will throw codes.
Those codes need to be turned off in your computer. Local tuner can help you out there.
