Aux input sound

I am looking at Auxiliary Input Converters to hook up stuff to my car sound system. I have found a bunch to choose from so I don't need help finding one (if you recommend on that would be cool). My questions is, when I was looking at one it says I need the controls on the main unit. I don't know if I do now and though it best to ask if I do before I put down $60 for one.

I have a 01' Taurus SES.

What are you trying to hook up to your audio system? If you are looking to play an MP3 player over the factory deck, then you could use one of the RF modulators.

If you are looking to add a CD changer to your deck, then that might explain what "controls" the directions on the one say you need to have on your deck.

If you are trying to add an aftermarket amplifier to your factory system for a subwoofer or something, then you really need a line-level converter.

If you are looking for something different, then please explain.

I want to hook up a few diffrent things, ranging from a mp3 player to a laptop. I HATE fm transmitters, one they suck at quality, and two the simplest interference up sets it. Any way all I want to know is if I require some special main unit to make a Aux connector that fools the car into thinking its a cd changer work?

There are some companies that at least used to make a device like you are looking for, but was for the Sony-built decks. I'm not sure who make the Ford decks in 2001, Sony, Alpine, or Clarion. I think the name of the company that made the converters was SoundStage or similar. You may want to search this forum for more suggestions.

Since you have the manual HVAC controls, you could also get a Scosche adapter plate and an aftermarket deck with an AUX input.

You would probably also switch a line on the factory changer cable to high to "trick" the deck into thinking a charger is installed and and use the audio inputs in the same cable similar to the method discussed about halfway down the page at http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modu...hold=0&sid=216.
