fuel injectors

Yesterday my SES light came on and was flashing at me so apparently i am having a misfire someplace. Since I just put in new plugs and wires in September and i have already replaced the intake manifold gasket i am assuming it is a fuel injector. Could some explain to me the process to replace these? Or does anyone know of a good performance fuel injector that doesn't cost to much?
I have a 99 with the 3.4 in it by the way...

Re: fuel injectors

What brand ignition wires and spark plugs did you use?

Replacing any fuel injector on the 3.4 isn't that difficult. The procedure is similar to replacing manifold gaskets. To get to both banks of fuel injectors the upper intake manifold (plenum) must be removed which will include disconnecting the EGR valve and removing the throttle body, etc. When you replace injectors you will need the upper and lower o-ring seals. Do not re-use old ones.

You might consider getting a professional fuel injection cleaning before replacing any injector. Statistically, 6 out of 10 injectors are just clogged or dirty.

Re: fuel injectors

I put in NGK iridium plugs with Taylor 8mm wires
Tommorrow im cleaning the injectors to see if that takes care of it. The reason why I was thinking about just replacing the injectors is because i have only been gettin 20 mpg...on a GOOD week. So hopefully the cleaning will take care of that...BUT
new problem today-the low coolant light came on but the temp was staying steady so i stopped and topped her off. After i topped it off I was driving a short trip of about 5 miles and the whole time it acted like the fans never kicked in. The temp gauge just kept climbing and climbing until right as i pulled in the lane to my house when it hit top and then i let it cool down. So i put some water in with the coolant because i just used straight dex cool before. After that it did the same thing except it caught itself at about the 3/4 mark and went back down twice within in 4 miles of my house. The whole time it does this the heater blows out ice cold air.
Do you think the two problems are connected or do I just have bad luck and have all this go wrong at the same time??

Re: fuel injectors

Sadly, its like a right of passage into Alero ownership. There are those of us who have had this problem already, and those who haven't had it YET.

Seriously though, sorry about your engine. Mine crapped out at 80k miles.

Re: fuel injectors

well I drove probably like 150 miles with it havin problems because i just assumed it was an injector and it just kept getting worse so the #1 cylinder was supposedly flooded with coolant. The mechanic is a good friend of mine and he said labor is usually around a grand and parts are about a hundred and he wouldnt screw me over.
I'm just hoping that when i get it back it still runs fine. After the head gasket blew in my moms car it didnt run right at all and she had to sell it

Re: fuel injectors

There is no reason it should cost you that much. I had the same issue on my 97 Malibu, which is a very similar engine and it only cost me $750...well, not ONLY, but less than $1100...and that was at a GM dealership.
