Question '93 Silhouette AC, freon trouble

I just bought a 1993 Silhouette 3800 v6 and I am having a problem with A/C, no cold air. I tried to put freon in and it took the first can and the psi's started going down then back in the red. I waited a while and tried to put the second can in and it took about half and same thing, psi's started to go down and then back to the red again! Is there a clog in the line or a filter somewhere that could be clogged?????? I live in Texas and it's hot here...LOL! I appericate any help anyone can give me.

Sounds more like a LEAK than a clog, because the system takes the charge, but then can't hold it.

I would take it to a shop you trust for service.

Take Care,

Re: '93 Silhouette AC, freon trouble

The first can of freon I put in was the kind with the oil, seal leak, dye, etc. I don't see any of the dye anywhere, but who knows....LOL! I am just hoping it's not the compressor or anything really expensive . Thank you for your response, I appreciate it very much.

Re: '93 Silhouette AC, freon trouble

93? R-12 or R134 refrigerant? You can only get R134 these days without a license and I believe your AC has R12 in it, at least my 94 Jimmy does. If you've put R134 into an R12 system, it's toast. You will probably have to take it to an automotive AC shop to have it diagnosed. If you have blown the seals which is what R-134 does to R-12 seals they can be replaced, the system flushed and R-134 installed. This doesn't work as well as R-12 but it does work. Check out:

they have an R-12 replacement which will work well in our older systems, and it's fairly cheap, at least as compared to the real stuff.
good luck, geterdone before summer.

You have R-12 for sure. You need to have your system retrofitted for r-134a.Also you may have damaged your AC compressor.

I took it in, they ran some tests and told me it's electrical...needs a new brain. Then we will see if the ac works. I haven't had it replaced yet, I am thinking about taking it for a 2nd opinion...LOL! (BTW, it's R134) Thanks everyone for all your help.... : )
