SS autochrome FMIC (GB)

Well I finally got around to installing my fmic I got from that group buy. I started around 1pm today and finished up around 12am. However, it is not on yet lol. I ran into some problems. First, a bolt for my bumper was striped and it took a good 20 minutes at griding at it to get it off. Secondly, I hate those damn plastic bolt/clips on the bumper those were a pain in the ass. After getting the bumper off, things went pretty quick and smooth. Right now I am trying to grind down my radiator enough so I can fit the damn silicone coupling over the pipe. It does not look like the pipes from the fmic to the throttle body will be long enough to reach each other. As of now my fmic is mounted via the center bracket and I am trying to get the upper piping to fit to the IC. Tommarow I plan on mounting the side brackets (if I ever get the coupler to fit on) and geting other needed parts for installation. This is my first real project on my car and it is deffinatly a bit harder than I thought it would be. I will post up pictures soon. I'm hoping to have this done by monday.

Yeah you need a longer coupler to reach from the upper pipe to the pipe that's on the intercooler. Not sure if you saw this... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=526219

Re: SS autochrome FMIC (GB)

Yeah I saw that. I have actually been using your write up to help me install the kit. I am sick today (fever of 103) so the car is getting put off. As of know I think I will follow your route EZ and use the steal with the holes in it. I looked for another way to install the side mounts but it would be to much hastle. I will also need to try and find a coupler that will reach from the fmic to the UICP. Does anyone know if home depot would carry couplers?

I highly doubt home depot would carry anything other than rubber Fernco for sewer pipe.I can tell you that you wouldn't want to boost one of those. I used one in my irrigation system for a quick patch down the line after the pump, lasted about 2-3 weeks before it blew. I think my irrigation sytem runs somewhere between 20-60psi. I wouldn't use one, but that just my

EDIT---> I was thinking, it might run as high as 120psi, I will have to check when I go home this summer because now I'm curious.

Re: SS autochrome FMIC (GB)

I'll tell you first hand even cheap e-bay silicone is better than home depot rubber, it sucks when a riced out eclipse gs tried to race you and you blow a hole in your coupler(true story)

Re: SS autochrome FMIC (GB)

Yeah home depot pipe is not meant to hold pressure (although my boost leak tester is made of one) they are meant for drainage pipes. You will need a 6 to 8 inch pipe, i used truck radiator piping (rated to 300psi) i prefer this to plain old silicone couplers cause it's much thicker and has a wire core. I have some left if you need a piece let me know.
