1986 trans-am stroker motor
I have a 1986 trans-am ,which i have just rebuild from the ground up.I have a stroker motor with the factory 5-speed,no mods have been made yet to the suspension, other than relocating the rear bumper stops to clear the 295/50's. Im having trouble with transmisson moving up under load, its actually bending up the floor in front of the shifter, also the back of my radiator fan motor is being wiped out by the water pump pulley bolts, anybody else had this problem ? Both motor mounts and the transmission mount are new, everything else seems to be in good shape.

Re: 1986 trans-am stroker motor
Well, if the motor is making rediculous power, the motor mounts may have gone already or are too flexible I guess. Im not really sure in this case whats going on. I have heard of people putting in solid motor mounts if the motor they built has a lot of power and would strain the stock motor mounts...which on that car were made for an engine making somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 hp or so...

Try the camaro page...a little more traffic and possibly someone has done this before on their chevy.

Most of us haven't had a 'too much power' problem. Are you still using the stock motor mounts?? If so...can you get prothane mounts for it? If so...I would try that.

Re: 1986 trans-am stroker motor
I may have done roughly the same myself.
There is no such thing as 'overboard'. Just more to fix.
