air conditioner compressor
My 94 regal 3800 V-6 only has 50,000 original miles on it and I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the area of the air compressor.
I dont know if it's the air compressor itself or from somewhere else above the compressor. it works fine and I dont hear any unusual noise nor see any metal shavings anywhere. However in the summer, I find myself having to add a pound of freon every couple of months or so. is it possible for the casing to be leaking what looks like motor oil or is there some kind of pressure line above the compressor that could be leaking. I know the oil pan gasket needs to be replaced but it's not that bad.....the oil leak on the driveway is right below the air conditioning compressor when I wipe the air compressor clean and wait a few days and look at at again, it's wet by the seams on the unit but again, dont know if it's dripping down from above somewhere.. so I guess my question is does a sealed unit like that ever leak what looks like motor oil?.......should I add oil to the unit?...I thought oil in the compressor was clear and very lightweight like wd-40. what are the signs of a compressor going bad anyway....is this one of them? |
