Waka Waka

Drove down to one of my customers at the beach on saterday morning and there was this huge great black shape at the far end of the beach.

It looked like a giant log washed ashore, but as I got closer and could see more detail in the damn light I realised it was infact a Huge Maori Waka! (canoe with attitude).

My parents went down later that day to take some pics:

For scale my Father is about 5ft 6in, so the Waka has to be 20+ feet long.
Its a most impressive sight, especialy in the early dawn light drawn half way up the beach, and with no ppl, or cars anywhere around.

I wondered where it had come from, Prehaps the Natives of some undiscovered polynesian Island had decieded to go exploring. Imagine the shock they would have found when the woke up in the morning, to find the country is populated by all these damn silly white natives. :silly2:
"oh shit bro! someone beat us here aye"

If the Endevor happens to pull into the Marina next door, you'll be the first to know!

But the Waka is actualy real. It was stopping off over night, on its way down the coast. Started life in the barrier a few years ago or something.

Hey hon, you're better off leaving this kind of stuff to PMs (private messages). Thanks.

*lmao* You're gonna die for that one, but it's funny nonetheless.

Very cool find, Moppie! Just watch out... they might be coming to get you!

There was a large tent hidden under the tree's about 10m off the beach.

That and the drive back to Auckland is only 30mins.

Its only 5 years old would you believe, but based on a design that would be several thousand years old.
Its a Maori Boat. The Maori were the first ppl to settle NZ, untill us big mean colonial opressors came along and signed a treaty with them.
