Hello, I have a 2001 Intrigue with about 70K miles on it. Once in a while, I notice that all of a sudden the gears start skipping and in doing so, it sort of jerks. This has happened to me before, and I have noticed that it'll stop doing it, if the cars' at rest for a long period of time. Last night, I was at a signal, and I accelerated a little more and after that, I started feeling the jerks whenever the gears would change(it was as if it was having trouble changing gears). This morning, however, I started the car up and it drove just fine. I'm not sure as to whats going on. I have also noticed that it seems to happen more when its rainy or wet. Can anyone please give me some suggestions or advice as to whats going on?
Thank you |

Re: 2001 Gear change problem
It sounds like the pressure control solenoid in the transmission is going bad. It is a common failure and i don't think it costs too much to fix. I have the same problem with my car, except it happens about once a month. I will turn it on, usually after it has been "resting" for less than an hour, and when I accelerate, especailly when I go easily, it will jerk into the next gear. when I pull it over and restart, its fine. I'll have to get my car in to change the solenoid.

Re: 2001 Gear change problem
Thank you for your response. I guess I'll take it in to the mechanic to get it fixed. Thanks again. You have been a great help!! :-)
