Broken hood release

As luck would have it, just when I ran out of washer fluid in the middle of snowy weather, the hood release on my 94 Regal broke. I removed the cover from the mechanism, and the cable that I imagine should be there was gone, without a trace.

Is it humanly possible to open the hood another way, without destroying it in the process?

Yes. the latch can be opened from under the front bumper. I can't remember if I pulled on what was left of the cable or pulled on the latch. If you reach up there, you will figure it out. The new cable is about $40.00 from the dealer.

I found it; I was able to pull the cable and get it open.
