Re: 97 HX Dual Mufflers

Dual exhaust are basically the same as single exhaust when it comes to performance enhancement. Headers and a hi-performance cat will reduce backpressure the most - mufflers are mainly just for noise. However, it doesn't harm the engine in any way so you don't need to worry.

Intake has nothing to do with exhaust backpressure - the intake valves are closed on the exhaust stroke.

I agree. From what I’ve learned, most inline 4’s won’t benefit much from dual exhausts.
I never knew that they made dual exhausts for our civics, I bet it’ll be a lot quieter. Who makes them?

Hey if it looks cool, more power to ya. As far as the performance is concerned, there should not be any difference if the you only touched the muffler portion of the exhaust.

No company makes a bolt on daul exhaust systems for a honda...you have to buy 2 universal mufflers and then have someone custom built you a cat-back dual exhaust.

Damm! That sounds like a lot of money & effort to put in for practically nothing in return! I still wonder if it’s lots more quiet then stock.

Re: 97 HX Dual Mufflers

expensive...yes...on my 91 hb i had a dual muffler that i had taken apart the had a muffler shop make a custom y-pipe and install it with 2-1/4" pipe...all in all it was about $350...oh and i had to pay $10 to get the other side of my bumper cut...but the sound was noice ...was loud as all outdoors but had the deepest sound to it...would downshift in the tunnel but got annoying b/c it was very loud and deep so i had to wear earplugs on long trips...and i was an easy target in Va Beach...so i had it taken off and put a turbo muffler on...that was an even better decision

Re: 97 HX Dual Mufflers

How did the shop manage to hang it? The custom side of the exhaust has to be connected too the body somehow. Did they rig it somehow?
