Need help with intake issue...

OK...I got the True Flow intake kit today. I was sure to remove the negative battery cable so the PCM would 'reset' prior to installation. It runs good wide open, but when idling, it acts like it's going to stall. A couple of times when I was slowly turning corners, it DID stall. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be? Everything appears to be tight...so I'm stumped. Ideas?

make sure you have a good seal on everything, if its not hooked up completely you can get an air leak, this will throw off the mass air flow sensor and it will want to die on you. but my guess is an air leak or soemthing to do with the sensor.

Did you plug the MAF back in? I forgot to do this when installing mine

I'll be sure to check both of those things and post back if that's not the problem. Honestly, I didn't unplug the MAF sensor. Was I supposed to?

OK...well, I checked everything just to be sure it was tight. It was, but I undid the clamps anyway and retightened/rechecked. I undid the negative cable again for about 15 minutes, then reattached it. Took it for a drive and turned into a parking lot and it stalled. Started it, went to make a turn in the parking lot - stalled again. Slowed down to pull into a parking spot - stalled again. Went in the store, came out and it stalled at two stop signs. After that it seemed to be a little better, but still seems to idle a little rough. When I come to a stop, the idle drops to about 300 rpm, the levels out at 500 rpm.

So, any other ideas? Can some of you let me know what your trucks idle at? I think 500 is about normal, but just want to compare.

Is the check engine light on? The MAF is directional so you want to make sure you have it installed correctly.

Idle should be 550 in Drive.

Nope, no check engine light. And yep, the MAF sensor is installed correctly. Idle seems to be a bit low. So I'm still stumped.

Well this may be of help to others down the road...

It seems like the low idle and stalling problem has corrected itself. So maybe the computer just had to make some internal adjustments. I don't know. I talked to True Flow and he said if I have any more problems, to try disconnecting the negtive cable, reconnect it, start the truck with the A.C. off and let it run for 5 minutes. Then switch the A.C. on and let it run an additional 5 minutes. HE said that should help the computer establish the base line idle.

Anyway, thanks to all for their input and help.

anytime you remove a battery cable you need to start the truck and let it run with all accessories off for at least 5 minutes without touching the gas pedal before you drive it so the computer has a chance to map fuel curves and set baseline data.

So since it seems to have leveled itself off fairly well, should I start over by removing the cable and follow the procedure you mentioned?

if its running ok it should be fine. it will remap over time and make fine adjustments so it should be ok. but if are having any trouble or your gas mileage seems to be low try resetting it again. it cant hurt anything if you do. anytime i do any work to my truck i reset the computer. (new plugs, wires, k&n air filter, and so on) as long as it is something that relates to engine operation. i probably dont need to reset it that often because the computer will learn it over time.
