Question weird stuff going on

The dome light in my '98 Z28 keeps coming on when driving down the road, but when I put the window up it goes off. so I am assuming that the door switch is going bad. but I can't find it in the door jam anywhere? Am I blind or is it in the door latch itself on the '98 models? This is very annoying, I had to pull the fuse for now to keep the dome lights from coming on at night when I am driving and to keep the dome light from coming on in the middle of the night and setting off the alarm. With that fuse pulled, I can't use keyless entry which is really annoying for a lazy person such as myself!

Another problem. Whenever it is really cold outside, and I go to start my car in the morning it runs like ass. Like a carburated motor with no choke. I have to sit out there and babysit it keeping it running till the motor gets warm. I assumed that since it was air temperature that was messing with it, that it would of been the Air Temperature Sensor. Replaced that, and it didn't make any difference what so ever. Also, it never kicks on the Check Engine light even though it is running like crap.

Re: weird stuff going on

ok for the dome light make shure that, that little spindel thing by where you turn off the lights is not pushed up all the way. And the door things are under little black rubber boot things so it just looks like a little black nob thing. and i think it is located right by the door pin area. as for the cold start thing, it kinda sounds like a bad o2 sencer, but there is no check engine light, so i don't know.

Re: weird stuff going on

have you done any mods lately? that might make it run like crap for a little bit till the computer relearnes every thing again. try to pull the batter cables off over night and hook it back up and see if that helps any.

Re: weird stuff going on

alright, I know which little black knob thing you are talking about and will check that out. I haven't done any mods to it, although someone had put a K&N filter on it before I bought it. I have tried disconnecting the battery cables already. the O2 sensor makes sense, it doesn't idle totally smooth when it is warm out either, but it is so minimal you can't notice it unless you really pay attention. The no check engine light, doesn't make any sense though?

Re: weird stuff going on

I'll give that a try this weekend. it probably needs it regardless. can you use regular old carb cleaner on it?

Re: weird stuff going on

ya, but i don't think you can on tha little sencer on the throttle body, i think it is plastic and it will eat away at it, so just wip that sencer clean with a towl, and use carb and choke cleaner on the throttle body.

Re: weird stuff going on

just went and looked at the door and door jam, there's no switch or anything on there anywhere. I even searched the bottom of the door. That switch has got to be integrated into the latch assembly. I will call the GM dealership in the morning and see if they can look it up for me. thanks for you help.

Re: weird stuff going on

The GM dealership doesn't even know where it is located at! It has to be in the latch assembly.

Re: weird stuff going on

That's a good bet, or look for some sort of magnetic contact point or a place for current to run through. I'm not sure.
