92 Chevy Lumina Stalling

My car has just recently started to stall right after I take my foot off the break, and as I am pressing the gas pedal. Sometimes, if I am fast enough, I can prevent the car from stalling by just pressing the gas a little hard, but most of the time, the car will give out. When I try to turn it back on, it wants to turn on, but won't as if it is out of gas. After about a min. it will turn on and struggle for a little while, then it runs fine. It won't give out or jerk when I give it gas. I don't have this problem if the car has just recently been driven, but if it has not been driven for about 8 hrs., it gives me problems. Anyone have any ideas??

Re: 92 Chevy Lumina Stalling

sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator to me. The diaphram is getting weak and it's not holding pressure. Check for fuel in the vacuum line that hooks to it. If there is fuel in the vacuum line, the regulator is definitely bad. IF you have access to a fuel pressure guage, hood it up and read the pressure, key on, engine off. It should be 31-35psi. Start the car and the pressure should drop slightly. With the engine running, disconnect the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator, and pressure should spike back up to key on/engine off reading. IF it doesn't the regulator is bad. If the fuel pressue is below the above readings during all these tests, the fuel pump itself is getting weak and needs to be replaced. If fuel pressure checks out, you probably have an ignition related problem.
