Just wondering something about the board.

I posted a couple of pics a little while back and got from 100-200 hits on them and not a single comment. I didn't think that much about it because I thought maybe the subject matter was too far out in left field for the members of this board, who seem to prefer sports cars and current imports. That is until a model of an old Nascar stock car was posted by someone else and, after around 200 hits, got several comments also. I was wondering what ya'll thought of my models but it's hard to tell without any comments. What gives?

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

Hey, I love your old stock cars! they inspired me to try one!.

I wouldnt think much of the not so many replys, there is not a lot of nascar fans here, like you say they are more into sports car etc..

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

I'm like James and think your builds are beautiful. Although I am not that knowledgeable on Nascar as we don't get much here in Australia, I am using other peoples builds to get better.
Sometimes I wonder if with the increasing number of threads being posted, that people are starting to be reluctant to post replies unless they really love the subject. As younger people join who don't have that first hand recollection of the cars competing, the older the subject, the less the interest. I feel this is very unfortunate.

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

Well, I for one don't often post in your threads because there isn't anything I can say about the build without sounding entirely ignorant of the subject matter (which I am). I do check them all out, though, and enjoy the cars and the dioramics you set them in; which I guess means I enjoy your photgraphy, too.

Something else that might put people off is that you don't say much about the model; like how you made it, from what kit, how you procured the decals, what mods you did, etc. The way I see it, comments aren't as much a comment on a model, as they part of a discussion of a model, and talking about what's going on in the picture is a good way to start a discussion.

Don't lose heart, your models are killer.

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

Thanks for the input ya'll. It makes perfect sense to me. Even on some of the racing boards, my historic stuff is kind of an aquired taste. Until I can get something more suitable I'll leave you with this Corvette, vintage of course, from the photo shoot of a friend's collection from a year or so back.

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

just a thought, it might also be due to your unique way of posting. you set up dioramas and photoshop in people so i think people that arent familiar with your work might think your actually posting reference and not a model. sometimes i even have to look twice before i realise its a scale build. but i like your approach, its refreshing and original. and like others, i no nothing about the cars you build and you tend not to give much info about them. but keep it up, i think its cool the way you do things!

Model cars and photography are superb. It's that dude behind the wheel all the time that's weirdin' me out.

Just kiddin'. As above, old American stockcars is a subject I am not familiar with so usually avoid making potentially ignorant, dumb comments.

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

Another thing, watch the use of the term "import". This is an international board and using that term is well... somewhat small minded and exclusive (as in not inclusive ) from a global perspective, if you know what I mean.

You took the words right out of my keyboard!

LUKE'57 - I'm sorry to say that I missed your original post but when I opened this post, my first reaction (after sympathy) was "Why the heck does he have such a big sig of his 1/1?!?!?" it was only as I read down further and reached your Corvette post that I realised my mistake

Great work and I'll be watching for more

Until I read further into it I thought your first picture was a real car on the race track.Excellent build and a unique way of showing off your work by putting people etc in your pictures.Steve.

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

Thanks everybody for all the positive input and comments. I will try to include some 1/1 reference stuff along with my builds from now on so that it will be clearer what's going on. And thanks for telling me that I may be too good for my own good. LOL I strive to convey realism in my builds and my photography and sometimes forget that everyone isn't "in on the joke" so to speak.

And don't worry about me using "import" as a slur because the first magazine this ol' Southern Redneck got a subscription to as a fourteen year old was Car & Driver way back in '64. All the time I was learning about bootleg turns and powersliding around those red clay ovals I was also lusting after Dino Ferraris and Morgan Plus Fours. Why, back in the mid sixties, when my fellow high schoolers were talking about the Impala SS they were going to buy when they got out of school and went to work, I was trying to figure out how to raise the $6000 that a new XKE roadster would cost me. But I wasn't so far gone that I didn't fantasize about what an invincible whiskey hauler that Aston Martin DB5 of James Bond would have been. All it needed was a little more trunk space to make the runs profitable.

I look forward to sharing my old stuff with you and enjoying the best of what today's automotive world has to offer that ya'll post on here. I'll try a little of your wine and you try a little of my 'shine and we'll all have a ball.

Hey, Luke. I love the vintage stuff. Most of my small collection reflects that. I love all the history and progression thru out the years. And its good to see this era posted from you. Maybe I missed some of your posts but usually all I see is a photoshop pic and I'm sure if you focused on the model itself and let it showcase itself, it would incite more interest. And I also agree with Willimo too, sometimes a post needs a little more from the builder then a picture. I like your models and it has been my mistake that I havent commented on them more. So, anywho keep up the good work and looking forward to more from you.
cheers

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

i think all of your builds are great. from what I have noticed. tuners and exotics get the biggest replies. North ameerican cars get less attention than those. f

Re: Just wondering something about the board.

All of your models always look so realistic. And the way you photograph them, in that awsome, lifelike diorama you have. Build for yourself. Your stuff is great, just all these kids on the forums can't apreciate what goes into your models. If you have a progress thread on one of your stock cars every now and then, that would be good too. Keep up the great work Luke!
