95 monte carlo starting problems

Help! Everytime I try to start it up it starts then dies right away.If i keep pumping the foot feet it acts like its getting to much fuel, i can barely keep it running,it back fires and spits and sputters. After a time of doing this i can keep it running smooth and eventually it will run idle and even restart just fine. When it acts up the service engine soon light comes onbut after it reaches operating temp the light goes off and is fine. It does not put out any codes though. I did change the egr valve but no change.Any help would be greatly apreciated

Do a fuel pressure check with a pressure guage hooked up to the schrader valve on the rail. I believe correct fuel pressure is 41-45 psi, key on/engine off.
