2001 Malibu turns off while driving....

Thanks in advance to all who reply!!

I have a 2001 malibu that suddenly turns off while I am driving. Over last several weeks I have had problems starting it, which I think I have discovered is a passlock problem. However, none of the other posts mention anything about the car turning off while driving so I am not sure if the two are related. I have been successful in restarting it by putting it in neutral, but obviously this is a serious risk to me and other drivers. It has shut off about 5 times over the last month, but twice it has been when traveling in excess of 40mph.

thanks

It's another N-Body car like yours. Sounds like the same problems.

You may want to look at replacing the Cam Position Sensor. This sends a signal to the BCM about the engine speed. If the sensor is bad, and does not send a signal, then the computer thinks the engine is not turning, and cuts the fuel. It is located on top of the engine block, near/below the power steering pump. It is a magnetic sensor that is about 2" long that is held in place with one screw, and sticks down into the top of the block. Most people replace this when they are doing the Intake Manifold Gasket replacement because the coolant tends to pool on top the sensor, and eat away at the wires.
