DX Engine Swap

sup. i have a 91 DX 5 speed with 1.5. I found a 1.6 SOHC Vtec out of a 92+ civic for 250 bucks with tranny but no ECU. Would this be a worthwhile swap or should i just save up and get a ZC? My current situation is my car smokes like there's no tomorrow and i want to get a new engine ASAP. What horsepower gains could i achieve? I know there are many more bolt ons and guts for a newer engine, but would it be worth my time?

yeah the sohc vtec swap is comparable with the ZC, it has 125hp and of course or lovely VTEC, the wiring will be harder to do cuz of vtec, but he engine is better to pass smog tests and its easier to find aftermarket parts for it.

if you arent gonna take the engine for 250, ill take it from you.

Yeah, 250 sounds like a hella good deal... Is that the D16Y6? How many miles on it? I found a D16Y8 whith less than 8000 miles for $900. Both the D16Y6 and Y8 will bolt right into the car with an Si or Y6/Y8 tranny. And, like crxlvr said, the specs are very similar to those of the ZC engine. Going from a D15 to a D16Y, you will definitely notice the difference!

you mean d16z6. the 92-95 civic are d16z6, 96 and up are the d16y8. but remeber you dont need the tranny so you could sell it. idk how much you could get for it but it should almost cover the 250 you spent or atleast the price of an ecu
