O-ring head, OR block?
Ok I have come to the point with my engine that I have to decide whether to put the O-rings in the head or in the block. If I put them in the head, I can use it later (when I find a 4g64 to build), but if I decide to sell the head and step up to a 1g head would anyone buy a head fitted with o-rings? If I put them in the block, same deal would anyone buy a 6 bolt block fitted with o-rings? I am doing it myself so it won't be a big deal to do it later on to another head or block. I guess it is more of a resale question than anything. Questions, comments, opinions?

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
I have a question, sort of an ignorant one. What are you talking about when you say "o-ring the block and/or head"?

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
My question to you is why do you need to o-ring it? Personally I think it would be a waste of money unless you are making over 800hp. There are many DSMers out there in the low 10s and some even faster with less than $200 in block machining. The motor I just built I have $163 into the block for cylinder and line bore, hone, and hot tank. I'm running a PTE T67 and shooting for 650-700hp and have no need to o-ring the block as of right now. I probably wouldnt do it unless I was shooting for 1000hp which will be quite awhile. Until you get there, what is the point?

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
Whoa easy, loeman
.So is "o-ringing" like cutting a slot out in the head and/or block to allow for a copper head gasket? Am I getting that right? I always pictured people putting black rubber o-rings in/around/by the cam/cranks seals but I knew that wasnt right.

It looks like I'm not going to get any opinions, wish I hadn't asked.

You got it. .032 stainless wire in a groove around the cylinder, or you can put it in the head. I just wondered if anyone had any opinion on which would sell faster after I am done with it.

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
I would guess if you had it in a ported/build head that would sell faster than buy one get one free bikini waxes at the playboy mansion
I would go for the head myself

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
Definetly o-ringing the head would sell faster. I am gonna do it too when I get around to building my motor just for the assurance of knowing I will never have to worry about my headgasket. Plus, it will be all ready to handle more power if I ever do plan on aiming for 1000hp. I'd do it all the way.

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
Since MY DSM (god I love saying that) has a going head gasket, I will be doing that job soon. Personally, I am going with a cometic gasket and ARP hardware. If you want to do that, I would go for it as long as its relatively comparable price wise to an alternative such as mine. I dont think I could justify spending very much more on something that could do the same purpose as a cheaper alternative.

Re: O-ring head, OR block?
Does anyone have a link to more info on the o-rings?
