Lights question

This is very odd....hopefully someone has heard of this before.

When I went downtown a couple of weeks ago I noticed this car (it was either a mustang or a porsche...I can't remember) that had it's front left light and left rear lights on while it was parked in the parking lot. The lights were on when I got there and when I left an hour later. I saw another car recently with this same setup. Is there something wrong with their lights, or do they have it wired like that to keep the lights on while the car is unattended? Wouldn't the batteries go dead? Why would they want to do that?

How do you confuse a Mustang with a Porsche?
I think that feature is for when you leave a car parked on the street. Only the left side parking lights are needed, so the right side is shut off to conserve battery power.

The car was off the whole time. But just the fact that only half the lights were on led me to believe that a person did this on purpose...
