Code 8???

What is a code 8, and what's wrong with my car???

a code 8 refers to the Top Dead Center timing of your car. find the specs for your car and adhust the timing back into spec.

yes if the timing is too far off, then the valves will not open and close at the appropriate times, getting no air/fuel to the spark.

code 8 is top dead center SENSOR, not TDC. I bet if you take the cap off your distributor and look, the TDC sensor is cracked. I further bet your rotor isn't screwed in anymore. Sometimes the damn screw backs out and flies around in there and breaks stuff - - usually the TDC and/or crank angle sensors. Unfortunately you can't get those parts individually and will have to replace the entire distributor sub assembly, which will run you roughly $250.
