They Goofed - BIG TIME!

Well.............I had to take my car back to have it repainted "again".
Seems that the bodyshop forgot to do the final fine sanding on the passenger side of the car and now i can see sanding scratches showing thru now that the paint has cured and shrunk down into these areas.

How Aggrivating !!! A show class paint job ruined because of a forgotten step that would have taken approximately 20 - 30 more minutes of prep time.
A very expensive mistake for the body shop too - it is going to cost them a small fortune to re do the whole car, since all of the t top gaskets emblems mouldings and such have to be replaced with new "again".

Even with the flaws, the car still looked super sharp , but i couldn't stand the sight of those scratches. ( reminded me of a car that had been painted by Maaco)

But, thank goodness for a body shop owner that has the back bone to stand up and address the problem and do what is right and fix it after i finally found out who he was and how to contact him, however the manager was a completely different story. It was about to come down to a legal battle and he hadn't even informed the owner of my problem, and wouldn't tell me who he was. And if i let him go on his own accord he would have hoped i would just get tired of messing with it and go away ( but i sure as heck wasn't about to let this one slide by)

Its going to take another 3 weeks to redo and i'm already having Camaro withdrawals. Its going to be a "Forever Long" three weeks for me.
I have other transportation, but i prefer my camaro over all the other vehicles.

Oh well ......What can i say - Just Venting

Re: They Goofed - BIG TIME!

The first time it was painted was because of the Original factory base / clear was delaminating just leaving the dove grey primer exposed.
The hood and sail panels looked like hell. Of course GM wouldn't take any responsibility for it either.
Its sad that they turn out crappy paint from the factory and just let the consumers be stuck to deal with it.

Re: They Goofed - BIG TIME!

You're lucky that you managed to get in touch with the owner and that he is taking responsibility for the problem. I know something like that would piss me off, esp. if I was stuck with it. At least you are getting it re-done at no cost to yourself. Sorry you're going to have to go for a while without your car, I know that must suck.

Re: They Goofed - BIG TIME!

Back in the 80s, Chevy did one of those "recall campaigns" on some of their factory paint jobs... I dont know which cars were included...only ever heard my grandfather bitch about how his 84 Corvette was covered by the campaign, but somehow he never receaved a notice about it...nothing came in the mail(even though he was the origional owner)...he had all maintenance work done at the dealership and they never mentioned anything...
Well, since he kept the Corvette in the garage and there was a parking structure at the hospital where he worked, the car was only in the sun while he was driving it so the paint job didnt show signs of deterioration until after about 6 years...but of course, the campaign was only good for five years, so he had to have the car painted himself...he was pissed!
The moral of the story...actually, I dont know if there is one
Can someone out there think of a good moral for this story? I really should have one...lol

Re: They Goofed - BIG TIME!

3rd gen camaro were covered by that recall, i heard gm with still cover the cost to repaint your car if it has the original paint, the clear is peeling, and you take them to small claims court

Re: They Goofed - BIG TIME!

Well Now Im getting really Nervous!
A week and a couple of days have gone by and I stopped by the shop to check the progress of how things were coming along.
Much to my surprize, i found that absolutely NOTHING had been done!
I discovered also that the painter Quit because he didn't want to repaint the car. I talked to a new shop man while i was there and although he was very nice, it seems that we are not on the page as to what was promised to me and how it was to be done. Its like nobody has brought him up to speed on this project - and im afraid of what the outcome is going to be. There are just way too many people involved with this now and it seems everyone of them has a different version of what is to be done and how. I outlined my expectations in writing from the get go and am wondering what the hell happened to that. I plainly stated in english that anything less than what was in the letter was not acceptable.
Somehow i feel that i may be worse off now than ever. I have this gut feeling that they are about to make a monumental mess out of this car.
I guess its time to go back into WAR MODE.
I was hoping that this could be resolved without going to court but its not looking too sunny for that at this point. I am going to call the owner today and see what he has to say about all of this, then i have to bring my attorney up to date on all of the new developments so he will be prepared to go to work.

THIS SUCKS!
