Ferrari 312 scale model...
This was posted up years ago, guy spends 15 years making an exact replica of a Ferrari 312. Working lights, steering, suspension, gearbox and engine.
Amazing. Vid quality is poor, it looks like a blown up version of the original clip which was really small to begin with... but you can still see all the good stuff. Enjoy: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...79124059513186

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
My friend Will told me about this a couple weeks ago. Simply amazing that he had the dedication and love for Ferrari that much to build it. I also heard that Ferrari bought it from him for like $2 million or something.

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
It even sounds like a Ferrari! That would be a good reason to invent one of those "Honey I Shrunk the Kid" machines.

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
I think Ferrari should of given him a car for his troubles.
I mean, an 360 Modena would be a nice thank you... wouldn't it? hehe

I think thats an incredible feat for one man, i am really impressed. The body work is astounding, but what really gets me is the motor, he was actually able to fabricate BY HIMSELF a 12 cylinder scale model of a ferari motor and make is sound like one. i could go on an on about how amzing that lil thing is but hey........... So if i shrunk my self u think i could get a ride in that car?

The sound is easy to replicate, it's just a matter of scale. You scale down any motor to that size, it'll sound just the same. It maybe a few octaves higher cause it's physically smaller, but the pitch will be the same. If that makes any sense... If you've ever seen on of those scale model 350/427 chevy engines that run, they sound like a real chevy.

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
MMMMAAAAZZZZIIINNNGGGG...thats too much time spent on it. thats like almost my whole life spending on that model. but it pays off.... or does it? 2,000,000/15 = 133,000 a year...i think it pays off. its also crazy that he had to make everything himself, including the valve springs and pistons....that man should open up his own scale model buisness. it'll pay off knowing his kit will allow others to do just the exact same thing he did, but with other cars. it would probobly cost about 20k per kit tho...

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
from that 200,000 you have to subtract cost of making it.

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
well i guess so about cutting away the cost from making everything...prob got all the iron block and everything custom made for him....he made the headers, and everything else....idk how ou would be able to melt iron in your own home....but i guess its possible. prob cost him about 80k to make the dang thing...

![]() Simple, I haven't. But I'm not stupid. But, what I said is true, there was a video of a Chevy V8 model on video google but can't find it now, the same type that run just like in this Ferarri video, and it sounded just like the real thing. Only smaller, same 'notes' but an octave or two higher. If you've ever seen one of those models run, you'll understand what I'm saying. EDIT: I found a few videos, not the one I saw before. But, this is of a hand built Hemi, that appears to be supercharged... http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...757542472&q=v8 Here's another... http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...010240825&q=v8 For reference, he's an in car video of a Hemi 'Cuda going down the 1/4 mile. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...6984726&q=Hemi Them little motors sound like the real thing... only smaller... doesn't they?

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
Melting Iron is reletively easy. but quote the PITA, especailly the molds.
Sand cast machine or CNC machine and it would be done in 1yr...lol. |

Re: Ferrari 312 scale model...
wow...i am absolutely amazed. i mean, the dedication, learning to build each part by himself....just the drawings took him, well i can't remember what he said now, 2 or 3 years. the exactness of the car, the working gearbox, the brakes and suspension, all exactly like the original. that's just amazing
