Shift Solenoid question

Hello every1,

I pulled this code P0751 Shift solenoid A, performance problem or stuck off out of my 98 bravada.Does that I need to replace the solenoid or something else went wrong?I took it to a transmission shop and he said he wouldnt mess it with he would only put a rebuilt in it.But if its the solenoid that would be something I can replace. It shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 3500 rpms no problem in any other gear.So I cant see replacing the whole tranny.Anyone have any suggestions? Also has anyone replaced a shift solenoid?I havent and cant find a book with that info in it.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Shift Solenoid question

I'd take it to another shop because a 3500 rpm 1-2 shift is way too late unless you're kinda hard on the accelerator pedal or other codes are present.
You might want to start shifting each gear manually which overides the computer...if it slips bad enough on a change, it'll wipe the material off the clutches of that particular "gear" and an expensive rebuild will be necessary.
The Blazer site of these forums is more active and someone there might have already experienced your problem...please let us know what you find.

Re: Shift Solenoid question

When I do drive it (which aint often at all).I baby it when its in 1st and what I dont understand is sometimes it shifts almost normal and sometimes it would shift higher than 3500 if I dont take my foot off the gas. This happened all of a sudden there was no warning.I changed the fluid and filter and flushed the lines after it started this and like a day later then the service engine light came on.

Re: Shift Solenoid question

I have had a buddy of mine replace the shift solenoids on my 97 twice now. I don't beat on it or drive like a nut. The tranny in mine just sucks. Good luck with yours
