Re: 91 chevrolet lumina

Hit it with a blast of starting fluid sprayed in the intake, if it runs on that and dies, it's a fuel issue (pump, relay, fuse) if not there is a spark control issue, could be a bad module, or coil. What engine is it?

Re: 91 chevrolet lumina

One way to test you fuel pump is this... You will find a red wire with a sort of connector on the end of it next to your aux battery terminal. Touch this to the terminal and you should hear the realy click on and the fuel pump power on. If your holding the wire to the aux terminal and the fuel pump shuts off (it should stay on as long as that wire is touching the terminal) your problem is there.

Re: 91 chevrolet lumina

Well, you can read the code that the car is putting out and than tell us what code it is... It will be a seriess of flashes. I believe the diagniostic code is 23 (2 flashes than a pause than 3 flashes than a long pause and it repeats itself.) It flashes each code 3 times from the check engine light. The way to get your car to flash the code is by shorting out the only two terminals in the diagnostic port that actually have wires in them. The diagnostic port is located underneath your dashboard slightly ro the right of your steering wheel.

Re: 91 chevrolet lumina

For about $15, you can buy a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual that will give you a lot of information, including how to pull the codes, etc... and the first time you fix it yourself, the manual will pay for itself. These cars with the 3.1 engine have known issues with the crank sensor, ignition module and ECM (computer), and the fuel pump and relay. Since all these parts will cause a no-start, pull the codes and shoot starting fluid in the intake as Jeff suggested. This will narrow the choices as to what to do next.
