Paint Job

Can anyone tell me what a pretty good estimate is on getting a new coat of paint on a 1772 Chevy SWB? Overall body in good condition, only rust is the driver rocker panel which will need to be replaced. I carried it to a local body shop and they quoted 7500 dollars.....seems very steep to me.

Re: Paint Job

I hope that price is not for a single color OEM style paint job??
you went to the wrong place.... I would think something around
$2K or less and thats without any major body work.
Older model pickups have very few trim pieces and most of that stuff
can come off. Go to another shop and see what they say without any mention of the previous quote....you don't need anyone to match the $7k one.

Re: Paint Job

the rocker panel might contribute to cost a little, but surely not 7K!!! im doing a frame-up on my 73 c-10 and it will cost me a total of 10K and im doing it myself, that price includes new engine, wiring harness, and box as well, so i would argue their price is clearly absurd...

heres how far i took it apart last summer, the frame's painted and the cab's primered and on the frame as of now, but not much else for progress this winter lol...

Re: Paint Job

For that kind of money they should keep the vehicle a few months, letting the paint dry a few weeks between coats and color sandings. Couldn't tie my work truck up that long.

My local One Day shop (the flagship since it's next to corporate headquarters in Torrance, California) did a fabulous clearcoat job for $1400 with a long, no-nonsense guarantee. A friend was restoring his '73 Triumph Stag, needed light dent work and alignment of front fenders/hood/grille/bumper. He was going to spend $5000; I sent him to my shop and he is thrilled with the better than showroom appearance of his car for $2000 total.
