Unhappy Transmission problems help!!!

OKay so here is the deal, the engine in my 99 saturn sl2 blew about 2 years ago, but i just got a new one installed. I have had the car for about 3 weeks and now transmission fluid is leaking and the shop is saying that it will cost 500 dollars. They say it is a frontal transmission leak. I find it a little weird that this is happening now after they just fixed my engine. I have the feeling they are trying to take advantage of me because i'm a girl and know little about cars. IF ANYONE COULD HELP PLEASE?!

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

well at least your smart enough to get a second opinoin.

now it can be numerous things. it could be the trans housing to bell housing seal bad, rear cover gasket bad, axle seals, torque converter, or worst of all differential pin eating a whole through the trans case which means its about to blow out. but if it was the differential, your fluid would probably be like gone.

i bet almost anything, the guys who replaced the engine damaged the axle seal when installing the the shaft back in.

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

Yes, my boyfriends dad said that more than likely they damaged the seal the problem is they aren't going to admit it. So i'll just have to talk to them about it and see if i could pay for parts and they could pay for the labor since more than likely it was their fault. thanks

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

well, if you have or somebody you know have a floor jack and jackstands, you could check it out yourself. it should be easy to tell where its coming from if it just started to leak. but id definitely say, if an engine was just put in, its got to be that passenger side axle seal. the intermediate shaft bolts to the engine, so they have to remove that to get the engine out. but of course they could have pulled the trans and engine together, and maybe damaged both seals.

now replacing that stupid little seal can get kind of pricy, but it shouldnt be no $500.

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

Well i'm going to call them back tomorrow and hopefully talk the price down a little bit. It just seems fishy that this happens not to long after they replaced the engine.

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

did they give details to this "frontal transaxle leak"? if they cant be straight up and tell you the exact part/issue then they are taking advantage of you. i use to work in a shop, and i have told people exact problems and of course most have no idea what it is, but at least they know the exact problem and see it on the bill. i have even showed them problems while they were at the shop.

which reminds me, you should see if they will show you the exact problem.

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

No tomorrow when i call them i'm going to ask them a series of questions my b/f dad set up cause he said he knows exactly what they are going to say yaddah yaddah. Like do you have the engine out of the car? What is the exact problem then have them explain it to me so i might actually get what is wrong. I might ask them to actually show me that is a good idea thanks!

Re: Transmission problems help!!!

Oh yeah i'm going to! Well the thing is my mom's car is there right now getting her engine replaced (different make and model) and my grandma goes there and my boyfriends dad is a parts manager at john deere and they do business there all the time, so i figured they would be honest. But i'm going to give them a whole lot of hell and maybe i'll throw in a few tears too. lol
