Question axel question

i was following my friend home today and his car was poping out of gear...it got to a point where we had to stop.... after looking around we noticed the passanger side axel poped out(tranny side) you could see the splines but it wasnt all the way out...it did let all the oil out and this is why the car was poping out of gear... now why would an axel pop out on a stock integra ls? the only thing done to the car is lowering springs...about a 2 inch drop...its a 94...the axel is good there was nothing wrong with it.we were just driving down the interstate when it happend nothing crazy...just normal driving....

Re: axel question

My pass side was coming out on me....had no clip...made the car shake like a wet dog when I downshifted, and when I would let off the gas...

Re: axel question

Yeah, its on the end of the shaft, its really a ring if anything, seated in a groove...

Re: axel question

just speaking hypothetically here, but... the only reason for the axel to pop out would be that the distance between the transmission and the wheel itself has increased. you did say you recently did work on your suspension. is it possible that in addition to lowering your car that you pulled your wheels outward a bit, or that the suspension is now loose in some way to where the distance between wheel and tranny increases while driving (during turns and stuff?)

when i changed my drive axels, i couldn't for the life of me, get this one ball joint to come apart on either side of the car. basically, i took the suspension apart another way and swung the wheel outward and the axel had enough room to come out. see where i'm coming from here? the constant distance between wheel and transmission are the only things keeping the driveaxel in place.

as for a solution, i'm not sure what to tell you.

Re: axel question

Just for your info...the distance does change...all the time, the inner hub slides (telescopes) but you can not get it all the way out of the tranny, as he said, it was still in. The joint will bottom out on the bearing inside there and wont come out far enough, but itll be loose as hell and make some fun noises...

Re: axel question

Ill make this easy, no. I just happened to be the luckiest s.o.b. on the planet! They just happened to have a 91 integra axle that had been turned in for core..they let me pick off it!
