Tool Question for Front End Crank

[2000 Silverado 4x4]

I have all the info for cranking the torsion bars and it must be somewhat simple if damn near everybody has done it but what I want to know is where did ya'll buy the 2 arm gear pullers? I've seen them here and there but I don't want to spend a hell of a lot on this thing if I'm only usin it once ya know?! Let me know where you guys went

The only tools you need to crank your torsion bars up is a 3/8" drive ratchet, a 3" extension which is not really necessary but it moves the ratchet away from the cross member, and if i remember correctly on the size, a 3/4" socket but i may be wrong. Now if you are swapping out the torsion keys for the ford keys that is a different story, you will need the tool for removing the keys that are in there and i heard it looks more like a C clamp and some places will axtually rent it to you.

Yeah...If you just want to crank your bars you just need a socket wrench, but be sure you jack the front tires off the ground or the torque you exert on the bolt might be enough to break the head off (which, I imagine, is a problem you don't want to have to deal with).

As far as the puller, I got one from Sears for 40 bucks. Make sure, if you do this, that you get the 7-ton puller and not the 3-ton puller (not big enough). Now, Chevrolet makes a tool especially for unloading a torsion bar which, like he said, is just a beefy C-clamp that fits the frame cross member perfectly. This tool will run you about 96 bucks and I had absolutely no luck finding anyone to rent me one (like others on here suggested). But, I had absolutely no problem doing my swap with the Sears puller.

If you get a few inches out of your torsion bars you should also get a full front end alignment.

Yeah guys I meant swapping key for the ford keys, sorry it was late and after the sun goes down I am a retard . So it looks like Sears it is, thanks folks

Yeah i used the sears 7-ton gear puller as well and it worked perfect. I think it was an 18mm socket on the torsion nut and a 19mm on the gear puller. Other than that just jack stands and a jack. have fun
