OK, I have finally decided what to do.....4G64T

After doing more thinking and doing some research I have decided to simply turbo my good 'ol 4G64. I have been reading up on how to do it and I found this site that has alot of good info: http://www.4g64.150m.com/. I will be honest with you, I don't know alot about turboing a car or turbo cars in general, I only know the basics. So some of my questions may seem "newbyish", but please don't flame, just help if you can. My plan is to turbo the stock SOHC 4G64 and retain the stock ECU.

So anyways, I have some questions.

1. What would be some advantages of swapping to a turbo ECU and should I do this?

2. I am obviously going to have to upgrade the fuel system. I was thinking about 450cc injectors like the link above stated. If I switch to a 2g turbo ecu will I still need the SAFC?

3. I will upgrade the fuel system with a Walbro 190 pump and some injectors. Besides an SAFC what else will I need. Will I need a fuel pressure regulator if using the SAFC?

4. Will I need any additional tuning besides setting boost and tuning the SAFC?

5. I want to run around 8 psi for now. I may eventually build the bottom end and do the DOHC head swap so I can turn up the boost. With this in mind what will be the best turbo to install. The above link suggested a small 16g or a 14b.

6. I will use an aftermarket FMIC. Can I use aftermarket 2g turbo lower and upper intercooler piping?

These are all the questions I have for now and I appreciate any help given.

I am hoping to start on this sometime this year. I have enough to cover it all in my savings but I want to get a job first so I dont blow all my paper.

1. Swapping in an EPROM will let you run DSMlink. If its possible, I'm not sure.
2. If you are going to be running a 14b 450's should suffice, otherwise go bigger. I think you will still need some sort of tuning device because the turbo engine is only 2.0 and yours is 2.4. Again, not sure.
3. Assuming that the fpr in the 2.4 is the same as the 4g63 you will be fine with a 190. Either way, I would get an aftermarket fpr.
4. Dont really understand the question.
5. I'd go 14b for a while. I think you may be stretching those injectors with a 16g.
6. No since the stock pipes are for the SMIC.

To have the fuel/timming maps for possitve pressure..

Any injectors larger then the 450's will require some type of fuel mangment..

You will need a 2g turbo FPR set to 43.5psi, 440's and no other tuning device... If you choose to get a 255lh or larger you will need an AFPR that will allow you to lower your fuel pressure; like the Aeromotive 13109..

4. Will I need any additional tuning besides setting boost and tuning the SAFC?
If you choose to use an safc2 you will need a pocket logger to log RPM, Timing, 02, Airflow.. And of course a Wideband if you have the available $..

both have extreamly good compressor effencys for low boost.. The 16 just has a higher & wider effency... Choice is yours.. I would stick with the 14b to begin with becaue it won't outflow your walbro & 440's..

The UICP yes if you go long route, LICP, No.. You can get a suppra side mount to work with the stock intercooler pipeing... Most FMIC will require new pipeing...

Re: OK, I have finally decided what to do.....4G64T

Thanks for the help from both of you guys. I have another question. If I swap to a turbo ECU will I need the 2g 4G63t throttle body? And if so...why?

So your saying that if I go with the Walbro 190 and 440 injectors with FPR set to 43.5psi that I won't need an SAFC?

Re: OK, I have finally decided what to do.....4G64T

You need the 2g Turbo FPR, and it needs to be set to 43.5psi... You won't "need" the safc2. To do any tuning you'll need the safc2 pocketlogger combo..

You wont need the 2g TB, you can use the 1g TB with 2g TPS, Vfaq or RRE has a writeup about it..

Re: OK, I have finally decided what to do.....4G64T

this really doesn't answer your questions at all and anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong, buit i was reading some insructions posted on another forum about turboing the 4g64 without rebuliding to a dohc and i believe that if you stick with the sohc you can only run low levels of boost something like around a max of 10 maybe 12 psi, so that might be something to think about if you are looking for a big power gain or want to run a higher boost level.

Yeah, well I'm only wanting to run around 8 or 9 psi for now. I'm just trying to get all the parts together right now and get it working. Later on I'll slightly upgrade the bottom end and do a head swap so I can turn up the boost.
