Cool Drag racing tips?

hey everyone.. I'll be racing my 99 Eclipse GS in a drag race this sunday. For my first time ever!! I cant wait IM so excited! Now before everyone goes and starts dissin' on my car for how slow its gonna be.. let me tell ya, ive heard it all already. Its an automatic but I want to run it anyway to see how fast I can actually go. Let me tell you all what is done to it already. I have a cold air intake, catback exhaust, MSD Ignition coil and wires, 17" rims, Kumho Ecsta radials, and thats about it. What kind of things could I do in 4 days that would be relatively cheap (under $100) to possibly make this faster. Now I dont have alot of time or tools to do a big project to it. Nor do I have that many days. It has to be race ready on sunday morning. Any suggestions? Please any tips would help me out greatly!! Thanks!

Re: Drag racing tips?

I'd say header but it would take more than 4 days. Not much that would help you a whole lot, sorry.

Sorry bro, but do you fully realize what you just said? Speed for <$100 on a NT and not even a week to get parts?

My advice would be to do a good tune up. Change the oil, air filter, spark plugs, maybe tranny fluid, whatever needs changing/replacing. Also, clean all the shit out of your car. If you have any clothes, books, shoes, sound system, spare tires, etc in there take them out. You'd be suprised how fast that shit adds up. Also, run your car down on gas. You dont want to sit on the line with a full tank of gas.

Re: Drag racing tips?

Thanks, I was going to take everything out of my car including the passenger seat and back seat. but I did not know that that getting rid of a bunch of gas would save weight... I didnt even think about that. Thanks!

Re: Drag racing tips?

At least he didn't come hear asking how to run 10s or anything, I think it was a legitimate question and as funny as it may be there is no need to flame him We were all noobs once

Re: Drag racing tips?

First off, please dont tear apart your car for some stupid race. Second of all, put in 93 octane and keep the tank full! A full tank is always better!

Be sensible now and GL!

Re: Drag racing tips?

DO NOT USE 93 OCTANE!!! Your running a close to stock automatic 420a and there is absolutly no reason to run 93. 93 will give you less performance than even 87. If you're looking for the best possible ets then strip it out and have some fun, but if you want to know what your daily driver runs leave it the way you would have it on the street.

i am just curious why a full tank is better? is there something i don't know here or doesn't a full tank weigh a lot more than a couple of gallons in a tank?

Re: Drag racing tips?

My brother works at a garage and the head mechanic there informed him and me that my car and most others run best when they have at least half a tank of gas. I do not know why but, I just wanted to agree that yes I have heard to keep at least half a tank of gas in your car for best performance. I think it has something to do with pressure.

Re: Drag racing tips?

I always go with just a half tank. I use the higher grade, but I am modded more. Drain your windshield washer fluid to. On our cars, those things are huge. If it's full, it will weigh you down. However, it is in the front which may add alittle downforce to the front of the car. Hmmm...

Keep the backseat in. It's styrafoam. Once you take it out, you'll put it right back in. Not worth it. Just like the side panels too. I had the back ones off for months when i did my back speakers. It looks like crap and makes the car depressing. ;-( Those barely save anything.

Re: Drag racing tips?

I just removed my washer fluid in favor of a battery box since it sits under the spare tire
