port and polish?
is it possible to port and polish a 1.6 sohc? I heard somewhere that it couldn't be none! I was also curious about getting the head shaved to up the compression!

of course it is possible. you can port and polish any head. just take the head off and look on the gasket and see if the head side and the manifold sides are the same and if not, just use a dremel to smooth it out. port it a little if you wish but remember to smooth all the rough edges that is the most important thing to remember.

in order to properly do head work properly, a flow bench is needed and lots of experience. The company should take into consideration the mods you have and weather conditions of your city. But you can clean up the head w/a dremel or die grinder. Just don't remove to much surface area. And just so you know the only thing polishing does is drain your wallet. It has been proven by the national airenautical (sp?) society that air flows at the same rate over smooth/rough surfaces. If you shave the head you will need a cam gear and will have to run premium fuel.

only thing porting and polishing can do is help flow more air due to larger area for air to flow in, but it's pretty minimal proper head work includes alot fo other tihngs such as valves and cams

A mild port job is all fine and good, but you have to realize that the texture in the intake manifold/head is there for a reason. You need to have some texture in the head/runners for the fuel to atomize properly. True it is benificial for motors putting out mad h/p, but for daily driver's I wouldn't recommend it.
