Leeroy Yarbrough 1969 Mecury

Hey guys, thought I would Venture to the darkside for a change with the
Polar Light's kit of Leeroy Yarbrough and his 1969 Mecury .

I added some weathering, and other exterior details, like the rivets on the bumbers, fuel filler, the fuel vent, window clips, hood pins, exhaust pipes etc..

Another wonderful build James. Would not mind seeing you build more of this era.

I am not a fan of NASCAR, however, I love the cars from the 60's and 70's that were involved in the sport. Your build looks great, awesome job.

Re: Leeroy Yarbrough 1969 Mecury

Brilliant

The race weathering really makes this model and brings it alive, having a character that all those over-primped trailer queen models with 8,000 machined and photoetched parts looking like they're on display at the World Of Wheels will never achieve. The simplicity is one of the factors that works so well. I'm in the camp that thinks real stock car racing died after the mid- 70's into a spec-car series that revolves around drivers and sponsors and not the cars. I always prefer real stock cars like this from the era when racing itself was relatively pure and relatively simple. The model is a great representation and very inspiring.

Re: Leeroy Yarbrough 1969 Mecury

thanks guys!, I think the weathering really makes race car models come to life also!
and with Leeroy, he hit a lot of stuff so it only seemed right to weather it a bit!

here is a picture of his 1969 Rebel 400 Winning car, as you can see he hit a lot of stuff on his way to victory lol
