New Toy
Well, I just happened to come across a good deal that I couldn't pass up. I found a 88 Civic Hatch DX with around 160k miles on it for $180. The head is gone and I haven't even looked further into the motor, but I'm thinking the block is fine, just needs a new head and some tuning. One of the hood hinges is broken, easy fix and one of the door moldings is missing on the drivers door. I haven't looked at the interior much, the seats have seat covers, so I don't know the condition of those, they're probably ok. The back seat has a couple rips. It's an automatic, but I'm mainly going to use it for a daily driver so I can put my 4dr in the shop and get the body work, paint and engine finished easier and quicker. I may end up putting a small stereo in it, a body kit, lower it and put wheels and exhaust on it - we'll just have to see from there.
Here are some quick pics ![]() ![]()

Re: New Toy
Both times I've had a few minutes to look at it I haven't even checked for rust, but there doesn't seem to be any. I'll be getting some more pictures probably tomorrow. I may clean up the interior tomorrow as well and see where everything is at.

Re: New Toy
Well, I just went and inspected the car a little closer. I found a couple small dents in the front passengers fender, and a couple in the rear drivers side fender well. There is no rust (visible) and all the seats have a few rips in them. Everything appears to be completely stock. It has the rear wiper, a/c and even a full tank of gas. I'm going to take a closer look at the head that is "supposedly bad" and see if it's something I can fix, or if I'll have to replace it. If anybody in my area has a passengers side hood hinge I'm going to need one of those too. Hit me up.

Re: New Toy
ya, the gas mileage will be nice - since I drive 40 miles a day to work and back. It's going to be a while before I do any major mods besides exhaust (ansa probably) cause I want something mild and an intake (maybe).

Re: New Toy
Updates on the hatch - I took a closer look at the hinge, and had a friend that can weld take a look at it too - he was able to fix it - looks like the rivet came off, so we just welded a new washer on the one side and it works perfectly. I put my old D16a6 head on the motor today with new head gasket, and intake gasket. It fired right up after sitting for a few months. Everything sounds and runs awesome except for the stupid heat sheild on the exhaust - going to have to see if I can tighten it, or it'll just be coming off. After a quick drive today the front suspension could use an alignment too. The a/c works so it'll be nice for a dialy driver this summer. I'll keep you guys updated on it.
