Throttle adjustment?

The gas pedal on my daughter's 1995 civic dx feels very hard to push when accelerating. A friend of mine says I might need to adjust or replace the throttle cable. Does this sound familiar to anyone and how hard are these things to do? I am pretty much a novice with cars so try to answer in layman's terms. Thanks for reading!
