My S-10 is like driving a bull at a rodeo. It bucks on me when I put little pressure on the gas. Then when i punch through the miss it makes a loud popping. That is followed by a fowl burning rubber smell. I just replaced the distributor cap, rotor, the spark plugs, and the exhaust. The transmission was rebuilt by GM a year and a half ago. With that I changed the fuel pump and fuel tank. I have no clue what it could be. Please give me some suggestions!

Re: '89 S-10 that skips/misses
Have yor exhaust system back pressure tested, you might have a clogged cat convertor.

Re: '89 S-10 that skips/misses
Could be the exhaust valves not seating properly due to extreme exhaust backpressure.

Re: '89 S-10 that skips/misses
Welcome aboard rhar055 , I know exactly what you are talking about, I have been there with mine . I can't tell you how to fix it , BUT I will tell what cured mine . I converted it from TBI to a HP carb and intake .
I replaced everything on the fuel, emision, and ignition system over a year trying to fix it . Light throttle was all I could do or it would buck like a wild horse . Any hill or grade would cause it. It would run hotter than normal . And idle after coming to a stop was intermitent . Sound familiar , I changed everything BUT the computer . Now I have awesome power and reliabilty . Good luck, Rob
