These cars are good but they are notorius for bad intake manifold gaskets and bad head gaskets. So if u dont mind fixing that, go for it.

Re: looking at a 95 monte Z34

you are special case because its a known fact that 95-99 monte's had a design flaw with those plastic type gaskets. Look around the site and u will see. I got a 95 3.4 and both my intake and head gaskets are blown. Impala, check the car(the one u want to buy) on a cold morning and start it up. If u hear a suction under the hood and the car cuts right off, its the intake manifold gasket. If its oil in the coolant or vice versa, its a blown gasket. If its oil on the spark plugs, its a blown head gasket. I just want u to be informed about this car. Dont get me wrong, I love my monte. Its just got a few issues.. thats all.

best thing I could tell is a junkyard. Or look in your local paper for a crashed monte. I crashed mine(still got it) and Im sellin it for parts. People do it all the time. Or put a listing online or in the paper saying ur looking for front seats. U could have mine but Im in DC.

Re: looking at a 95 monte Z34

the 95 is notorious for the tranny goin out. my son has a 95 monte z34...he bought it with 154,000 on it... he put 3,000 and the tranny took a dump.. the 95 is a year all its own.. you have to havea tranny out of either a 95 or a 96 monte carlo thats it.. and like you said the alternator is a major pain.. so thats everything thats happened with mine... good luck

Re: looking at a 95 monte Z34

here is some good advise , take it for what it is worth, the monte is a fine car for what it is. the 3.1's are down on power, intake gaskets, heads and head gaskets. the 3.4's are a great engine if they are good, they had their share of problems also, the intake gaskets(most gm's have the plastic gaskets so you can't use that as a reason), alt. is in a bad location, dist block off o-ring, timing belt(not as bad as everyone thinks just did one on mine in a few hours). the trans are not a problem as the earlier post stated, as long as they are maintained you will not have a problem, it was the later years that had trans problems. the head gaskes are not problems as the earlier years had. all in all this is a good engine but like all other things each vehicle has design flaws. the cars drive good, are comfortable, have decent power(3.4), and are cheap to fix(if you can do it yourself).
