2002TB 'whistling'!!

If you can peg this one you have both my thanks and admiration! Occurs only at speed and usually in colder weather and goes away after 15-20 minutes of running (but doesn't start until slightly warmed up and at say 40+). I can best describe it as something similar to a belt whine or brake sensor or bad vacuum leak BUT:
Kicking it into neutral and revving the motor makes NO change.
Applying the brakes makes NO change.
There are no other signs.
There is nothing caught under the undercarriage or something really dumb like that.
It's not consistent enough yet to take it in.

Hope someone has experienced this or can help.

Thanks!!

Try spraying the front axle seals coming out of the diff, see if it changes, they had some problem with these seals squealing, the fix is an updated seal though.

Yeah, the fix is a new seal. The service dept. should be able to take care of this for you.

What seal? I've had similar *noise* from loose mouldings and roof racks. Are u sure it's not that?

Re: 2002TB 'whistling'!!

Thanks for tip. Yes, I'm positive it's not wind or loose hardware. Seems to happen more regularly in cold weather. As soon as I get up to 50 or so she starts howling, then quiets down in about 10 minutes, after the running gear is warm. I just need to be certain that dealer can duplicate it because they have NOT been very helpful on this kind of thing!!

Typical axle seal symptoms.

What seals? Rear axle, inner fronts or front hub seals?
