01 Silverado Fog light question.

Anyone ever find a fog light or driving light that fits the area of the OEM light? I do not have fog lights but want them badly. I cant figure a way to mount them even if I could find a light that fits. Any help would be greatly appeciated! Post pics if you have a mod you like or can reccomend

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

Well first off don't purchase the stock ones, they suck! I actually just purchased some PIAA 001 Solitaires off eBay for $50 (Reg $145) I am going to cut up the original Fog light housings and mount these ones inside them to keep the same stock look. I'll post pics and differences when I'm done.
Hard to find anything that looks good in these wagons as the holes aren't square or circular. And the mounting holes are way up in the bumper so unless your a metal expert you'd have to figure out some way to mount a bracket up there. PIAA Sells a Killer Lower valance replacement kit that let's you add 4 driving lights 2 on the outside and near the license plate but, it's $200+ just for the lower kit then you gotta buy the bulbs as well.

Anyhoo I've gone on too long so I'll keep you posted and watch for pics once my PIAA's arrive....

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

Try hella FF75 my boss just put them on as reverse lights and they look like they'd fit nicely. I'm planning on getting a pair soon. They're also quite bright and cost about $85.

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

Just finished helping a buddy put an OEM kit in an '03 GMC K2500 Sierra. He is one happy guy. Like you he "wanted" those fog lights. Go on eBay and look for them. That's where I got his and they came from a GM dealer. It took about a total of 6 hours over 2 days to install. Had to remove the front grill and the front bumper for the install. All the directions are included in the kit. I know the GMC's are round and the Chevy's are oblong, but the install should be pretty much the same..........Steve

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

Yeah, in 03' they changed the bumper design and the 03 + are a better Fog light. Those Hella's look "Hella-Cool" look like they'd be a good fit. You would just have to make a decent bracket to fit. I didn't have to take the lower valance off to fit mine but, mine's a 1500 2 wheel drive don't know if that makes any difference.

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

On my '00 2500 4x4 it looks like a piece of cake. The factory lights have a pretty hokey mounting set up. Anything rigged with moderate competence should be better than stock. When I do my install I'll take some pictures. It might be a week or so though because it's #$%^ing cold here and I'm usually home around dark.

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

Seriously go with the OEM!!!! I bought the kit from chevy for my 2000 z71 and the install was easy and they look great because they fit perfectly in the openings in the air dam. Mounting was wasy all the cables to hook into computer are included along with factory new switch for your dashboard. Will have to get the BCM reprogrammed at dealer to accept lights once they are installed, will cost about 60 bucks. The OEM kit are not as many watts as many aftermarket, but then again these lights are more for appearance than function. Any fog/driving lights are only going to minimally light up the road below the truck.

Re: 01 Silverado Fog light question.

I have to disagree. If all you care about is the look the stock lights are fine but they suck for lighting and are made like crap. A good set of aftermarket lights will work much better and cost the same or less. I'm actually replacing my stock lights with the Hellas. I may just splice them to the factory wiring and keep the factory switch if it'll work.
