'93 GMC pickup 4.3 V6 Cruise Control Problem

I have had my truck for about a year now. When I got it the cruise did not work at all, still dosen't lol. I make a lot of long trips in my truck and having cruise contol would be nice. I checked @ my local dealer and they want $80 just for the knob(wind shield wiper, cruise etc). But im not sure if its the actual knob or the "cruise computer". Is there anyway to check and see witch one it is? In stead of buying both? Or could their be more wrong than meets the eye? I drive the truck daily and nothing is wrong with how it runs or drives for that matter. How do I fix this problem?

p.s. Yes i checked the fuse lol
