I have a 1991 Isuzu trooper v6. It has an extremely bad oil leak. I took it a mechanic and they said it was the oil cooling tube or cooling housing plate. Has anyone heard of this? If somebody had a diagram of the where this hose is I would love to see it. Apparently if is under the drivers side manifold. Any personal advice would be great I have to keep this pig on the road until I can get a new ride. Ps they wanted 1200 to fix it so I guess its dys tme. Thanks Brett

Re: 1991 Isuzu trooper bad oil leak
Oh yeah I had that too. It is a Steel braided oil cooler line, which is a dealer part of course. ( about $120 ) . It is a little bit of a pain to replace, well I just took the drivers side tire off. There is still limited room to move a wrench around, and you might as well make a trip to the hardware store and by the wrench to fit it. It is like a 17 or 18 mm, I can not remember, and you should take a look at where it is first to determine how long of a wrench you need. There are 2 lines, right on top another, which also makes it alot of fun to get at the one you need to replace. The dealer around here was not too smart when I ordered the line, and ordered a transmission cooler line, which further delayed the fix, just a heads up.

Thanks for the feed back. Does anyone know where I could down load a diagram of that area of the motor?

Re: 1991 Isuzu trooper bad oil leak
I pm'd this to you too.
Nah it is not that bad to do, and what a relief on the driveway when it done. I just went and looked, it a 27mm wrench, and it is all of 14 or 15 inches long. I remember needing the length to get in there and still have some torque. Albiet a very little room to tighten and loosen. You will also want to put some thread tape on it. When looking at it from the front of the truck, you will see two aluminum lines going down to the drivers side of the motor. These lines go to the oil cooler, that is by the radiator. When tightening and loosening this end, you will want to have a wrech on that aluminum end too, so you do not twist that line off, I imagine it could get ugly then. Well where the aluminum part ends, you will see the top part of the braided line, it only about 12-15 inches long, and threads in right by the oil filter. It will be easier to take the oil filter off when replacing the line. Once you get this far it is all down hill. |
