Trans fluid leaking from solenoid control box

My 2002 Grand Caravan just started leaking trans fluid. The van just turned 102,000 on the clock and has been very dependablle thus far.

Local repair shop says the leak is coming from the transmission solenoid control box. Took it to another shop and got the same info.

Cost to fix about $400.00

Anyone have any advice on this?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Trans fluid leaking from solenoid control box

Nothing directly related but, here's one guys experience. 96GC 3.8 ltr 4 speed tranny. Fluid was collecting on top of the tranny case, overflowing and puddling on the ground. Lived with it for 3 years until I was adding a quart every three weeks. Took it to a local general repair shop who removed the tranny and took it to a specialty transmission shop. They took it apart and replaced the forward pump seal and a brass bushing. The original shop then reinstalled the tranny - all for $700. Still no leaks 6 months later

I was told a new tranny would be $3000 and an overhaul would be $1700. The transmission shop said I didn't need either, just new seals. It was a relief to know I found a couple of honest businesses who knew what they were doing.

As for your situation, I don't know anything about solenoid packs. I would say however that $400 sounds reasonable if they are removing the transmission. If not, well might be a tad high but, not real bad. Please let us know how it went

Re: Trans fluid leaking from solenoid control box

I had the soleniod pack replaced on my 98 at 75k under warranty for the $100.00 deductable after I noticed trans fluid on the ground.
I found one listed here for $163.00

Thanks for the above site. I don't have the part number and when I typed in the search words soleniod pack it came back as could not be found?

Any ideas on how I could go about ordering the pack?

Thanks again.

Re: Trans fluid leaking from solenoid control box

Well, I did find the part after all. Now I'm going to check with my trans shop and see what they charge for the same part, and if they would mind if I bring in my own part.

Thanks again for the good info.
